CEE offers many resources, including very comprehensive rubrics – the Green School Guidelines, to guide a school that’s striving to embrace Education for Sustainability, through curriculum integration, school grounds enhancement, community-based education, school sustainability and administrative support. The Co-SEED website, http://coseed.schoolsgogreen.org/ offers high-quality stories and examples about the Community-based School Environmental Education (CO-SEED) project which helps schools and communities work together to develop community and place-based curriculum.

This program helps engage students in their community’s sustainability and sense of place through mapping related to current issues and valuable history.

Community Works On-Line www.vermontcommunityworks.org
Community Works offerings include Community Works Journal, its publication of exemplars and reflections from service–learning and place-based projects and strategies from around the US—also available in print. Community Works has partnered with Shelburne Farms’ Sustainable Schools Project to present “sustainability as the goal, place as the context, and service-learning as the strategy.”

This Michigan-based organization offers activities and resources on important sustainability issues, mostly for secondary level, including population and consumption, sustainable communities, ecological economics, the global economy, and sustainable agriculture.

EcoSchools www.eco-schools.org
An international network for schools who involve students in sustainability decision-making, planning and activities on their campuses and communities. Most European countries participate, and the network is expanding. The UK Eco-schools site is very exciting and informative.

This Vermont-based national project offers technology-enhanced teacher-written curricula for K-12 centered around five main themes of EFS: thinking about the future, systems-thinking, natural resources, sustainable economics and social equity. The site features student-friendly software tools on Ecological Footprint calculation, designing communities, and scenarios, as well as web courses for adults.

LEAF supports and encourages children's ecological and sustainability activities through deep collaborations of citizens,businesses and administrative agencies. In addition to organizing innovative community-based education opportunities in its home city of Nishinomiya, Japan, LEAF runs the international Chikyu Children’s network, which all educators are welcome to join. Partnerships with LEAF have inspired several Vermont teachers to develop new projects based on LEAF’s examples.

National Wildlife’s schoolyard habitats programs offers schools and teachers many resources for developing the schoolyard to increase both biodiversity and opportunities for EFS.

A leader in developing EFS curricula, SEC offers high-quality materials on important sustainability topics, including full high school standards-based courses on business education and entrepreneurship, food systems, sustainable economics, and civic participation and government.

This site offers an excellent, readable introduction to the concepts and framework of thinking about sustainability. It also includes information about indicators to guide communities towards sustainable development.

The Sustainable Schools Projec (SSP) is a dynamic new model for school improvement and civic engagement. The program helps schools use sustainability as an integrating context for curriculum, community partnerships, and campus practices. The Sustainable Schools Project is sponsored by Shelburne Farms, and is a partnership with VT Education for Sustainability. SSP uses the integrating concept of educating for sustainability to improve our communities economically, environmentally, and socially for current and future generations

An excellent multi-media professional development resource on many themes and strategies of sustainable development. Developed by Australian John Fien, this resource has been adopted by UNESCO, which is orchestrating a global UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development, beginning in 2005.
